When you say the word “Methodist” to most people, no
matter what their church-going history might be, they almost always respond
with the word “singing!” Mayo UMC is no different. We are indeed a singing
church. Our Music Ministry is a fairly accurate reflection of our church’s
ministry in general.
Those who seek a worship
experience embracing a traditional format and hymn singing the great hymns
of Methodism, led by our Organist and Chancel Choir, will feel right at home
during our 11:00 a.m. worship service. While we take the traditional
approach to music, we make every effort to choose music that complements the
sermon and scriptures planned for that day. So, we cover the gamut from
“old favorites,” “gospel” to “contemporary.”
The 11:00 a.m. service is
preceded by a “spiritual warm-up” hymn sing at 10:50 a.m. when members of
the congregation choose their favorite hymns to get us up and ready to
receive God’s message for the day.
For those looking for less
tradition and structure, we have a worship service at 9:30 a.m., featuring
singing and music led by our dedicated Praise Team. Although different in
style from 11:00 a.m., the 9:30 service music is aligned to enhance the
sermon and scriptures for the day.
The 11:00 a.m. Chancel Choir
rehearses every Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. The Praise Team meets weekly on
an as-needed basis. Both groups would welcome your suggestions, thoughts,
requests and PARTICIPATION!
Although not a regular singing
group, our Sunday school singers play an important part in Christmas and
other major holidays.
In short, there is something for
everyone. If you have any questions or interest in becoming a part of our
ministry, please call the church office.
Everyone is welcome!
